Congratulations to our STCS Griffin Varsity Girls Basketball team on their stellar 2020 Season! The Lady Griffins defeated many of their opponents by 20 or more points on their way to a perfect 14-0 record. We are all very proud of their accomplishments and their excellent sportsmanship throughout the season. A very special thank-you to our Athletic Coordinator, Augustine Nwoko, who led the team with grace and professionalism.
On Sunday, May 4th, Saint Theresa Catholic Students sang accompaniment for Mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa and the opening ceremonies for the Houston Polish Festival. They were roundly praised for “angelically singing the praises of Our Lady in Latin,” by several people who attended the opening Mass. They were also recognized by and had an opportunity to meet the First Lady of Texas, Mrs. Cecilia Abbott, Grand Marshall for the Houston Polish Festival. Dr. Mark Newcomb, Headmaster, personally invited the First Lady to our “Hail to our Heroes” event on Saturday, May 25, 2019.
Each spring, Reining Strength, which offers therapeutic horsemanship sessions to children with disabilities, holds its Derby Day gala fundraiser. This year, the event coincided with the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 4th. Dr. Mark Newcomb, Headmaster, was invited to deliver the benediction. Dr. Newcomb noted that one of the favored horses was named Tacitus, after the celebrated Roman senator and orator. Dr. Newcomb asked blessings upon the fine work of Reining Strength for bringing “children and families into a greater awareness of God’s love through healing, wonder, and hope.” After the amended official race results were released, Tacitus came in third, but Reining Strength came in first for outstanding support of its altruistic work in the community.
Each year, the University of Saint Thomas in Houston holds an essay contest in Theology for students in area elementary and high schools. This spring, Saint Theresa Catholic School had 8 students who were among the semi-finalists in the contest. Two of our students, Isa Corridore and David Trinh, Jr., earned Honorable Mention recognition. Two other STCS students were also recognized: Joseph Corridore earned 2nd place among all 4th Grade students across the Archdiocese, and Lucille Newcomb earned 3rd place among all 8th Grade students across the Archdiocese. Congratulations to all participants!
