The Malcaba Family
Making the decision to send our daughter Hannah to St. Theresa’s Catholic School (STCS) during their first year of operation initially filled us with some doubt and trepidation. A speech impediment corrected only through surgery had left our daughter frustrated and unable to make even the most rudimentary sounds until she was almost three years old. We hoped STCS would provide an environment for her to thrive and allow her speech abilities to catch up to her obviously exceptional intelligence. In hindsight, our decision to send her to STCS turned out to be fortuitous, if not brilliant.
Our daughter started her first year in Ms. Srubar’s Pre-K4 class a painfully shy child lacking self-confidence. By the school year’s end, she was memorizing and reciting poetry with such fervor… and Math was now her favorite subject! STCS had engendered and reinforced in Hannah her love for learning. The patience and encouragement exhibited by the school in general, and her teachers in particular, allowed our little angel to thrive and grow. The feedback and guidance we received from Ms. Srubar in Pre-K4, and continue to receive from Ms. Johnson in Kindergarten have been extremely helpful in highlighting potential areas of improvement.
Academics have not been the only derived benefit from STCS. Love of God, respect for others, taking initiative to help out with chores – these are just a few instances of positive behavior we have seen in our daughter. Her social development has likewise grown by leaps and bounds. We are under no illusions – Hannah’s ability for self-expression is still a work in progress. However, we know the patience and encouragement STCS has shown Hannah will continue and inevitably allow her not only to catch up, but to excel.
We cannot think of another institution that could provide the same level of education, guidance, encouragement, and flexibility as STCS has provided for us and for Hannah. We shudder to think where Hannah would be today had we not made that fateful decision. We look forward to our little girl growing up in tandem with her beloved school (yes, she actually looks forward to school).
