2017 PSIA Competition Results
Saint Theresa Catholic School made a really brilliant showing for our first time at the Private School Interscholastic Association (PSIA) competition. Here are the particulars:
64 students participated and entered 136 contests
35 students earned ribbons
STCS ranked 4th out of 13 participating schools (approximately half of those institutions were homeschools or homeschool co-ops)
11 STCS students are eligible to compete at the State level in a total of 13 events
Clearly, STCS has a lot to cheer about! For this achievement we would like to recognize not only our students, but also the indefatigable Dorian Speed, the faculty who assisted her in prepping our students for the meet, and all of the parents who listened to hours of speeches, dramatic readings, and encouraged their child to listen to music selections and to complete more Math problems. With everyone’s help, Saint Theresa Catholic School is showing itself to be an academic powerhouse in Houston and beyond.
All 8th grade Students Accepted to their Top Pick High School
We are excited to share that 100% of our 8th Grade class was accepted to their top pick High School! In addition, of those who selected a second-pick school, all but two have been admitted to that institution as well. This is an incredibly strong showing for STCS in the first year of preparing 8th Grade students. Their achievement, however, is also a testimony to the outstanding work their parents have put in, and speaks volumes of good things about the time, energy, and devotion that our exceptional faculty have dedicated to the children over their years at STCS! It is another indisputable indicator that the classical and Catholic curriculum draws on the wisdom of the ancient past to prepare students for current day success.
Saint Theresa Catholic School has been granted full membership status by the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education! This affiliation of classical, Catholic schools is committed to forming the character as well as the minds of the students they serve. You can learn more about the ICLE here. Bishop Barron serves on ICLE’s Board of Directors, and Raymond Cardinal Burke is a member of their Advisory Board. This distinction is a testament to the quality of an STCS education, and witnesses to our faithfulness, both to Church teaching and to the tradition of education that stretches back to ancient Greece and Rome.
Saint Theresa’s Catholic School was featured in an article about Classical education in the Washington Post. The article highlights a Catholic school in Washington D.C. that transformed itself from a struggling private school to an engaging center of instruction with Classical education. Parents and parishioners came together to produce a lengthy education plan and raised funds to retire the school’s hefty debt. St. Theresa’s Catholic School served as a model for this school as it made this transition. Read the whole article here.
